Shazad aka Brigadier ShazBad (brigadiershizzy@gmail.com)
I mix all genres of music for the revitalization of rare and diverse cultures and sound. The vibe depends on the audience and gathering, but I prefer to play tunes you've likely never heard and unlikely to hear again, which I hope will unlock dormant parts of your brain while aligning our heartbeats.
I am inspired to create soundscapes that represent the diverse cities I have had the pleasure to listen to, grow in, and feel connected: Toronto/Mississauga/Hamilton, New York, Banjul, Gaborone, Istanbul, Sulaymaniyah, and Kingston, Jamaica. In each of these cities, I found great inspiration from the people, their landscapes and soundscapes. I enjoy mixing Foundation Roots Dub from Jamaica with South Asian Qawwali and follow it up with Lata Mangeshkar, Miriam Makeba, and Buffy St. Marie.
If we can all experience more balanced soundscapes in our communities, it can improve health and wellness, foster connectivity across bodies (we are not our bodies), and help us to transcend linguistic and cultural barriers--just follow the vibrations.
